Obituary of ROBERT H. ARCHER SR ROBERT H. ARCHER SR Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 22, 2001 R.H. Archer, Sr., 90, died April 20, 2001, at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Archer was born in Nansemond County, Dec. 19, 1910. During his life he worked in the farming, dairy, logging and lumber businesses. He also served eight years with the Nansemond County and Suffolk Sheriff's Department where he retired in 1975. Mr. Archer was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church, and prior to his death was proud to hold the honor of being the oldest male church member. During his years at Western Branch, he served as teacher of the Junior Boys Sunday School Class and was secretary of the Sunday school department. He also served as a deacon and trustee for many years. Mr. Archer was proud of his fifty plus years of involvement with the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Over the years, he belonged to the Purdie Masonic Lodge 170 in Windsor, Suffolk Masonic Lodge 30 in Suffolk, Royal Arch Chapter 20 in Suffolk, Portsmouth Commandery 5 in Portsmouth, Khedive Temple in Norfolk, and was Past Patron of Sinai Chapter 18, Order Of The Eastern Star, Norfolk. Mr. Archer was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Catherine Baines Archer. He is survived by his son, Robert Hersey Archer, Jr.; daughter, Catherine Archer Alexander; son-in-law, W. Everett Alexander Jr.; grandsons, W. Rett Alexander III, Robert Vaughan Alexander, and Ryan Archer Alexander; great-grandson, Tyler Christian Alexander; special family, H.L. and Stell Pierce, and friend, Linda C. Presson. The family will welcome visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the home. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Western Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Duncan Schirmer and the Rev. David Jendrey. Interment will be at the church.
