Obituary of BERNICE ESTELLE HAND ARRINGTON The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - February 27, 1994 Estelle Hand Arrington, 86, of the 400 block of S. Main St., a homemaker, died Feb. 26, 1994, in Nansemond Convalescent Center, Suffolk. Mrs. Arrington was born in Isle of Wight County and was the widow of William Edward Arrington. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Main Street, Suffolk. Survivors include seven daughters, Mildred Cobb of Zuni, Dana Gale of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Virginia Satterfield and Willie May Umphlett, both of Portsmouth, Rose Marie Umphlett, Betty Umphlett and Lois Marshall, all of Suffolk; three sons, William C. Arrington and James H. Arrington, both of Windsor, and George F. Arrington of Suffolk; a sister, Sara Lee DeMoris of Planville, N.J.; a brother, Tilman V. Hand of Como, N.C.; 29 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was the daughter of the late Missouri Elizabeth Bailey and George C. Hand. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson. Burial will be in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery, Isle of Wight County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday and other times, 410 S. Main St. and 109 Byrd St., Suffolk. They suggest that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, Family Life Center, 227 N. Main St., Suffolk, Va. 23434.
