Obituary of Willie Edward Ashley WILLIE EDWARD ASHLEY Virginian Pilot 03-02-2001, B-8 Willie Edward Ashley, 76, of the 4300 block of Whaleyville Blvd., died Feb. 28, 2001. A native of Tyner, N.C., Mr. Ashley was the son of the late Ed Ashley Sr. and Iola Beans Ashley. He was also predeceased by a wife, Oneda S. Ashley; two sons, W. Frank Ashley and David L. Ashley Sr.; three brothers, and two sisters. He was a retired mechanic for the Norfolk Naval Base. He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church and an active member of the Men's Fellowship. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Bright Ashley of Suffolk; granddaughter, Carrie E. Vann of Suffolk; grandson, David L. Ashley Jr. of Gates County, N.C.; great-granddaughter , Melissa A. Vann of Suffolk; great-grandson Daniel D. Ashley of Gates County; sisters, Delia A. Byrum of Seaford, Va., and Grace A. Boyce of Portsmouth; a brother, Ed Ashley Jr. of Edenton, N.C.; and three stepdaughters. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Tommy Reynolds and the Rev. Sally E. Hardy. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter-in-law, Diana S. Ashley, 857 N.
