Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - October 25, 1997 William Archer "Bill" Atkins Sr., 60, of 3300 Overcreek Road died Oct. 23, 1997, at home. Mr. Atkins, a former resident of Franklin, Va., was a son of the late William David and Esther Joyner Atkins. He was an Army veteran and plant superintendent of Seaboard Bag Corp. in Richmond. He was a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church, the Franklin Moose Lodge and the Atkins Brothers Band. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Daughtrey Atkins; three daughters, Patricia C. Ferguson of Franklin, Pam C. Gavin of Richmond, Peggy A. Jordan of Sedley, Va.; a son, William A. "Billy" Atkins Jr. of Chester; three sisters, Betty Hawkins and Shelva Jean Edwards of Franklin, Dorothy Turner of Suffolk; four brothers, James Atkins of Asheville, N.C., John Atkins of New Bern, N.C., Edgar Atkins of Courtland, Va., George Atkins of Ivor, Va.; six grandchildren, Randy and Karen Withers, Caitlin and Mari Kathryn Gavin and Jacob and Jesse Jordan; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Franklin Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James W. Lambeth with burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, at 7 p.m. today and at the Franklin Congregational Christian Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
