Obituary of WILLYA VIRGINIA DRAKE NELMS ATNIP The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - June 30, 1993 Willya Drake Atnip, 68, a native of Boykins and longtime resident of Charlotte, N.C., died Saturday, June 26, 1993, in Daphne, Ala. Ms. Atnip devoted 35 years of her life to the care of others in the nursing profession. She is survived by a daughter, Leigh Atnip of Mobile, Ala.; a son, Robert Atnip and his wife, Allison of Charlotte; three sisters, Ruth Thorpe of Newsoms, Ruby Smith of Conway, N.C., and Pearl Carter of Boykins; two brothers, Harvey Drake of Perryville, Mo., Fred Drake of Clearwater, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and many dedicated friends, including Mr. and Mrs. James and Avie Patton and Mrs. Helen Marks, all of Charlotte, Tim Snyder, Terry Donnelly and Linda Jones, all of Mobile. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, by the Rev. Kenneth Williams. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
