EMPORIA - Vera Bell Simmons , 92, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001. 

She was the widow of Thomas O. Simmons Sr. She is survived by four daughters, Louise S. Tomlinson of Emporia, Alice Mae Pope of Boykins, Joyce S. Comer of Richmond and Jean S. Bass of Jarratt. She was preceded in death by three sons, Thomas O. Simmons Jr., Alfred L. Simmons and Bobby B . Simmons . She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. 

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Owen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Barn Tavern Cemetery, Sebrell, Va.
