ALESE BAILEY TUCKER
Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - September 9, 2004
Alese Bailey Tucker, 82, widow of David Charlie Tucker, died Sept. 7,
2004, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Southampton County,
she was a daughter of the late Tilman and Rosa Francis Bailey and a
member of Newsoms United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Newsoms
High School and loved plants, vegetable gardening and cooking. Alese was
a well known local baby sitter and an avid Newsoms baseball and softball
fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Priscilla Griffith and husband Chuck of
Newsoms and Melissa High and husband Robbie of Henderson, N.C.; two
sons, Doug Tucker and wife Bonnie of Handsom and Steve Tucker of Newsoms
; three sisters, Bet Johnson and Dot Gelhaus and husband Ken, all of
Franklin and Vivian Kaikas of California; one brother, Bill Bailey and
wife Virginia Ann of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Greg Griffith and
Shawna, Scott Griffith and wife Meghan, David Griffith and wife Penny,
Ashley Griffith, Casey Tucker, Allison High and Christine Driggins and
husband Kenny; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Griffith, Rhiannon
Griffith, Landon and Destiny Driggins. In addition to her husband and
parents, Mrs. Tucker was predeceased by a son, James Tucker and two
brothers, T.V. Bailey and Kenneth Bailey. The family would like to
express their appreciation to the East Pavilion West staff and her
longtime physician, Dr. Robert G. Edwards.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hollywood Cemetery
with the Rev. Dr. Gary Hartman officiating. The family will receive
friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and
suggest memorials be made to Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Bill
Fowler, 28327 Cypress Bridge Road, Newsoms , VA 23874.
