Obituary of Raymond Thomas "Tommy" Baines RAYMOND THOMAS BAINES Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - July 27, 2001 Raymond Thomas ''Tommy'' Baines, 68, of the 3000 block of White Marsh Road, died July 24, 2001. A native of Nansemond County, Va., he retired as a farmer and also a produce manager for A&P Stores. He was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church and the Men's Bible Class. He served as trustee, former deacon and board chairman. He was a member of the Cypress Ruritan Club with 34 years perfect attendance, and the Suffolk Moose Lodge No. 141 for 35 years and junior governor. He was also a member of Hampton Roads Legion No. 199 and was a member of the Fellowship Degree. Mr. Baines was a U.S. Army veteran. He was born the son of the late Julius Edward Baines and Johnny Griffith Baines. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Baines Russell; half brothers and sisters, William Baines, Ryland Baines, Aaron Baines, Susie Brinkley, Ray Baines and Una Hollowell. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Duke Baines; son and daughter-in-law, Gary Thomas and Lisa Burris Baines of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Christopher T. Baines, Timothy A. Baines, Joseph A. Baines and Charlene G. Burris; a brother, Robert P. Baines of Suffolk; and several nephews. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Cypress Chapel Christian Church by Dr. John Kimball, the Rev. Michael Brinkley and Dr. Willis Dowling. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence.
