He had retired after 25 years as proprietor of Hunterdale Shell Station and was an avid gardener and was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Baker of Whitakers, N.C. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Taylor Baker; daughter, Betty B. Whitehurst and husband, Bill, of Franklin; two sons, Tim W. Baker and wife, Vicky, of Boykins and Neil E. Baker and his wife, Lea Ann of Ivor; two grandchildren, Ben Lane and Sarah Whitehurst; eight sisters, Luna Ingram, Naoma Clay, Letha Harris, Ada Lee Faison, Vivian Harrison, Margaret Williams, Sande Caudle and Robbie Reaves; four brothers, Moses Baker, Seth Baker, Jerry Baker and Thomas Baker. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Southampton Memorial Park by Dr. Alan Campbell. The family will receive friends at the residence. Holland-Rideout Funeral Home is in charge.
