HANNAH BARHAM PICOT

Hannah Barham Picot, 91, died Aug. 15, 1999, in Greensboro, N.C., where she was visiting at the home of her niece. Born in Como, N.C., on Aug. 21, 1907, the daughter of the late Guy Carleton and Rosalind Darden Picot, she lived there throughout her life.
An active, dedicated, faithful and faith-filled member of Buckhorn Baptist Church in Como, Miss Picot was a choir member and a WMU member; she taught Sunday School until just recently. After high school, she attended East Carolina University, then known as East Carolina Teachers College, in Greenville, N.C. She taught elementary school and then became the secretary and bookkeeper at Chowan Milling Co. in Como. When she retired, she devoted her life to caring for her family.
Miss Picot had a great love for children, who knew, only as children can know, that she was a genuinely authentic person, a Christian in values and action, whose joy was to reach out in love and service to others. Her devotion to family was second only to her devotion to God and church. She will be lovingly remembered by all those whose lives she touched.
Miss Picot is survived by her brother, Guy Carr Picot of Franklin; her nieces, Sister Mary Rosalind Picot, R.S.M., of Belmont, N.C., Betty Lou Jordan and her husband, Patrick, of Greensboro, N.C., Patricia Reeve of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Becky Otey and her husband, Melvin, of Richmond; a nephew, Sandy Tucker of Richmond; and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Patrick W. Jordan of Greensboro, Sandy Tucker, Melvin Otey and Ross Otey of Richmond, Rosser Bryant of Franklin and Marvin Worrell of Como.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buckhorn Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Allen. Interment will be in the church cemetery, followed by a luncheon to be served in the church hall. Memorials should be made to Buckhorn Baptist Church, Como, NC 27818. Garrett's Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, N.C., is handling arrangements.
