Obituary of Martha Howell Barnes MARTHA HOWELL BARNES Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, December 9, 2005 FRANKLIN - Martha Howell Barnes, 88, widow of Benjamin Thomas Barnes, died Dec. 8, 2005, at her residence. A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a daughter of the late Linwood Henry Howell Sr. and Daisy English Howell. Mrs. Barnes was a lifelong member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ, an honorary member of the Woman's Fellowship, a former deaconess and a faithful servant to her church. Survivors include two brothers, Joseph E. Howell of Sedley and James D. Howell of Kingwood, Texas. She was a beloved aunt and mother to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Anna Howell; and three brothers, L.H. "Teenie" Howell Jr., Alfred Howell and Ray Howell. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hunterdale United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dietmar Plajer officiating. Burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive family and friends anytime at the home, 23086 Sedley Road, and suggests memorials be made to HUCC Building Fund, 741 Hunterdale Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
