FRANKLIN - Bessie Vick Barrett died May 28, 2002. She was a native of Southampton County and a daughter of the late Rufus and Dellie Flythe Vick. Mrs. Barrett was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, a charter member of the Pine Crest Garden Club, a member of Southampton Memorial Auxiliary and the Christian Women's Club. She was an avid fisherman and gardner. 

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Mark Everett "Poss" Barrett Sr.; a sister, Adelle V. Drake of Newsoms; and a grandson, Mark E. Barrett III. Mrs. Barrett was predeceased by a son, Mark E. Barrett Jr., a brother, Clyde Vick and two sisters, Nellie Drake and Eunice V. Gray. 

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. Ira D. Hudgins. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery . The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Franklin Baptist Church, 208 N. High St., Franklin, VA 23851 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
