JULIETTE BARRETT O'BERRY

Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 13, 2001 

Juliette Barrett O'Berry, 85, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. O'Berry, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, was a daughter of the late Hugh Alexander and Pearl Darden Barrett and the widow of William Thomas O'Berry and retired from the Southampton County Public School system after teaching elementary school for over 40 years. She was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church and former member of Barnes United Methodist Church and enjoyed being the organist at both churches. She also enjoyed teaching piano and organ to many young people in the Newsoms area over the years. She was a graduate of Farmville State Teachers College and a member of the Southampton County Retired Teachers Association. 

Survivors include two daughters, Constance O'Berry Vick and husband, Herbert, and Rita O'Berry Lewis and husband, Herbert, all of Franklin, Va.; three nephews, Jack E. Trew Jr. of Courtland, Ernest L. Barrett and wife, Brenda, of North Little Rock, Ark., and Bruce A. Trew and wife, Peggy, of Franklin; two grandchildren, Susan Vick Dunn of Roswell, Ga., and Anna Lewis Parker of Franklin; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Dunn and Paige Thomas Parker. Mrs. O'Berry was predeceased by a sister and two brothers, Antionette B. Trew, H.A. Barrett Jr. and Ralph Barrett. 

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hollywood Cemetery , Newsoms , by the Rev. Curtis Faison and the Rev. Kenneth Williams. The family will receive friends at the residence, 22230 Ball Park Road, Newsoms , and suggests that memorials be made to Boykins Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 347, Boykins, VA 23827, Newsoms Baptist Church, P.O. Box 312, Newsoms , VA 23874, Barnes United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Hilda Drake, 32561 Cypress Swamp Road, Newsoms , VA 23874, or a favorite charity. Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, is in charge.
