Obituary of William Henry Barrett WILLIAM HENRY BARRETT Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 14, 1999 William Henry ``Bill'' Barrett, 81, a lifelong resident of Carrsville, died Dec. 13, 1999, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was a son of the late John Edward and Addie Perkins Barrett, and the widower of EdaLane Chappell Barrett, who passed away Nov. 5, 1999. Bill was a retired cost accountant with Union Camp Corp. and an Episcopalian. An Army Air Corps lieutenant during World War II, he was a bombardier on a plane that was shot down over Germany and was a POW from February 1944 to May 1945. He was past president of the Carrsville Ruritan Club; past lieutenant governor, Holland District, Ruritan National; past vice chairman, Central District Old Dominion Area Council, BSA; past chairman, Troop 37, BSA; past commander and lifetime member with 39 years continuous service with American Legion Post 73; vice commander, 4th District, American Legion; member, Lee Jackson Camp No. 1, Sons of Confederate Veterans; department of Virginia chairman, local board, Paul D. Camp Community College and served on the Board of Western Tidewater Mental Health Center. Survivors include his daughter, Manara Anne Patterson of Carrsville; two sons, John Christopher Barrett of Richmond and Anthony William Barrett of East Peoria, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Johnson Barrett of Windsor and son-in-law, Brian Owen Patterson of Carrsville; four grandchildren, Barrett Alexander Patterson of Carrsville, Amy Marlane Barrett of Washington, D.C., Christi Ann Barrett and Creighton Russell Barrett, both of Charleston, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Cara Lane Johnson of Sydney, Mont., Susie Weltikol of Billings, Mont., and Gina Bialoracki of Richmond, Ky.; three great-great-grandchildren, Dillon, Megan and Audra Lane; and special nephews and a niece, Donnie Barrett and his wife, Judy, of Northern Neck, Va., Michael and Billy Wolfe and Joan Wolfe of Franklin. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, EdaLane Corrine Daggs; a sister, Lillian ``Boots'' Littell; a brother, Edward Barrett; and a granddaughter, Jeri Lane Schilling. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. James W. Browder III.
