Obituary of Edwin William Beale Jr. EDWIN WILLIAM BEALE JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - February 6, 1998 Edwin William Beale Jr., 74, died Feb. 4, 1998. Mr. Beale was a native of Isle of Wight County and son of the late Eva Gay Beale and Edwin W. Beale Sr. A graduate of Windsor High School, he was an Army veteran of World War II, participating in the First Armored Division in the Battle of Anzio in Italy. Mr. Beale had retired from the City of Franklin after 36 years, serving as Director of Public Utilities and City Treasurer. He was a former treasurer for Western Tidewater Community Services Board and a member of the Franklin Fire and Rescue for 30 years having been a former treasurer and acting chief. A member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, he was church treasurer for 14 years and served on the Usher and Deacon boards. He was also a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 151 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Mary K. Beale; two sons, Edwin W. Beale III of Zuni, Va. and James ``Jim'' A. Beale and his wife, Tammy, of Franklin; two stepdaughters, Joan W. Surace of Chesapeake and Gail W. Wilkens of Minneapolis, Minn.; a stepson, F. Robert Wall of Hilliard, Ohio; three grandsons, Chad, Wade and Joshua Beale of Franklin; and two stepgrandchildren, James and Mandy Surace of Chesapeake. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Joyner Beale. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Franklin Congregational Christian Church by the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
