Obituary of James Irving Beale III JAMES IRVING BEALE III Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - January 14, 2000 James Irving Beale III, 77, of the 31000 block of Country Club Road, died Jan. 13, 2000, at his home. Mr. Beale was born in Franklin, a son of the late J. Irving Beale Jr. and Evelyn Lloyd Beale. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1944, in 1947. During World War II, he served with the 36th Infantry Division, 141st Regiment (The Alamo Regiment) and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and the French Croix de Guerre for meritorious service. He retired from Hercules Inc. in 1984 with 29 years of service. He was an Eagle Scout and worked with the Explorer Scouts for many years. He was an active, lifelong member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church where he taught Sunday School, served on the Board of Deacons and was the Chairman of the Finance Committee and the Building Committee. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Day Beale; three sons, James Irving Beale IV and his wife, Becky, Michael Clinton Beale, Benjamin Day Beale and his wife, Donna; two sisters, Peggy Keller of Tulsa, Okla., and Anne Parmelee and her husband, Fred, of Greenwich, Conn.; a brother, Frank L. Beale and his wife, Patricia, of Sandston, Va.; and four grandchildren, Jonathan, Matthew, Zoe and Jacob. Graveside services will be observed at 2 p.m. Saturday in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. The family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that gifts be made to the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, 412 N. High St., Franklin, VA 23851.
