Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, April 4, 2002 Joseph Willard Beale Jr., 75, died April 2, 2002, at the Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born in Franklin, he was a son of the late Joseph Willard Beale and Josephine Powell Beale. A Navy veteran, he was owner/operator of Beale's Garage and a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae Pittmon Beale; a daughter, Joann B. Drake and husband, James, of Goldsboro, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Debra Harrell and husband, Archie, of Capron; three stepsons, James C. McCann of Courtland, Donald Rogers and wife, Donna, of Franklin, Jimmy Rogers and wife, Rebecca, of Hopewell; five grandchildren, Chris Drake and Tammy Dawson, both of Goldsboro, Judy Smith of Smithfield, Steve Beale of Franklin and Wayne Beale of Windsor; four stepgrandchildren, Denise Smith of Goldsboro, Cheree Marlin, Michael and Meridith Rogers, all of Franklin; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Beale was predeceased by two sons, Joseph W. Beale III and Jerry Wayne Beale. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Reginald Warren officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence, 906 Kimberly Drive, Franklin.
