Obituary of Leon Carter Beatty LEON CARTER BEATTY Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, August 9, 2002 Leon Carter Beatty, 55, a beloved husband and proud father, died Aug. 8, 2002. Born in Jarratt, Va., he was a son of the late Allen D. and Effie Harrison Beatty. He was a Marine Corps veteran and member of American Legion Post 176 of Boykins. He was a dedicated and senior member of the Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad and charter member responsible for the organization of the Boykins Jaycees. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Linda Edwards Beatty; devoted son, Shane Beatty and his friend, Mona, of Greenville, N.C.; four sisters, Frances Pierce, Phyllis Chase, Peggy Boothe and Virginia Lee West and her husband, Bill; two brothers, Milton "Corky" Beatty and his wife, Bert, and Danny Beatty and his wife, Beth; in-laws, Betsy Beatty, Paul and Barbara Edwards and their daughters, Gretchen and Jonna. He was predeceased by three brother, Bob Beatty, William "Skeeley" Beatty and Edward "Mac" Beatty. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Boykins Chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray McGarr officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of Paul and Barbara Edwards, 33291 Pine Crest Drive, and suggests that memorials be made to the Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O.
