Obituary of Robert Hall "Bob" Beatty ROBERT HALL BEATTY Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, March 9, 1997 Robert Hall ''Bob'' Beatty, 54, died Friday, March 7, 1997, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Greensville County, he was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Newport News. Bob began work at age 14 with Whiteway Foods, Boykins, and continued to work there for 24 years. He then served as branch manager of Johnson's Foods, Boykins, until 1985, when he became a supervisor for Narricott Industries, Boykins. He worked in this capacity until 1994. He was a very active member of Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, serving as fire chief, captain, president, vice president and instructor. He received many awards, including Outstanding Fireman of the Year and Outstanding Rescue Squadsman of the Year, both several times. Bob was also an avid sportsman and member of the Meherrin Valley Hunt Club and formerly was a member of the Boykins JCs. He was the son of the late Allen D. and Effie Harrison and brother of the late William and Edward M. Beatty. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Betsy Collier Beatty; four sisters, Phyllis B. Chase of Hampton, Mary Frances Pierce of Newport News, Peggy B. Boothe of Williamsburg and Virginia Lee West, Bangor, Maine; three brothers, Milton L. and Leon C. Beatty, both of Boykins, and Daniel W. Beatty of Murfreesboro, N.C. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 1997, at 2 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, by the Revs. John Davenport and Kenneth Williams. Burial with fire department honors will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the residence, East Street, Boykins.
