He was retired as owner and operator of Benton Refrigeration Service. He served in the army at St. Lo, France, during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Benton was a member of Clarksbury Baptist Church, Boykins. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ethel Ricks ''Ricki'' Benton; daughter, Brenda B. Arriaga and her husband, Leonard, of Chase City; two grandsons, Matthew Duke of Chase City and Marty Duke of Franklin; three sisters, Ruth Cowan of Olive Hill, Tenn., Jamie Guyot of Nobles, Ill., and Irene Ferrell of of Elm City, N.C. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. Durward Vaughan and the Rev. J.B. Jarratt. The burial will be at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Friends may join the family at the residence.
