Born Oct. 10, 1921, in Bolton, N.C., he was a son of the late Curtis Wilson and Dorothy Ezzell Best. An Army veteran of WWII, Mr. Best retired from Union Camp Corporation and was a member of the Holland Hunt Club. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Suffolk. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Frances Campbell Best; three daughters, Yvonne Best Slye and her husband, Gerald, of Franklin, Mary Lee Best Garrett and her husband, Michael, of Henderson, N.C., Cathy Best Jones and her husband, Roger, of Franklin; three sisters, Louise B. Gordon of North Charleston, S.C., Doris B. Baines of Courtland, Annette B. Davis of Los Lunas, N.M.; two brothers, Clayton Louis Best of Suffolk, Ervin Carroll Best of Lanexa, Va.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister, Curtis Wilson Best Jr. and Retha Mae Best Messervy. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. William Hawkins. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 900 Commonwealth Place, Suite 101, Virginia Beach, Va. 23464.
