Obituary of Harold Dean Bowden HAROLD DEAN BOWDEN Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, September 10, 2003 Harold Dean Bowden, 74, passed away Sept. 8, 2003, with his loving family by his side. Born in Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late Solomon Richard Bowden and Grace Pittman Bowden. He retired in 1986 as a pipefitter and welder for Amoco Oil Co. in Yorktown after 29 years; served on the Ritual Team as a member of the Warwick Loyal Order of the Moose 1711; a former church secretary, deacon and choir member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Newport News; and a devoted member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni, where he was a choir member and inactive deacon. Harold served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Ellen Young Bowden. Mr. Bowden is also survived by his brothers, Elbert R. Bowden of Wakefield, Andrew A. Bowden of Carrollton and Daniel E. Bowden of Tampa, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Pam and Tommy Salmon of Zuni who called him "Dad." He was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia B. Wuska and Alice B. Sheffield. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni, with the Rev. Micah Voight officiating. Burial with military rites will be held in the church cemetery.
