Nell Jeanette Branch Crocker, 59, a resident of Zuni for the past 31 years, died Dec. 26, 2000, at her home on Windsor Boulevard. Born in Newport News on Aug. 26, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Richard Harold Branch and Helen Irene Horton Branch. She had worked for the Department of Agriculture as a peanut grader for more than 30 years. She was a devoted member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church and a former member of the church choir. Nell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a natural caregiver and loved and mothered everyone. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, singing and doing puzzles.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, William Harvey Crocker; two sons, Richard Allen Crocker and his wife, Amy, of Windsor, and William Gregory Crocker and his wife, Debra, of Zuni; two daughters, Natalie Crocker Branch and her husband, Eddie, and Tammy Crocker Joyce and her husband, James, all of Wakefield; two sisters, Judy B. Powell and her husband, Robert, and Linda Sue Bowden and her husband, Rufus, all of Zuni; and eight loving grandchildren, Kristina Crocker, Joshua Branch, Dana Crocker, Jamie Joyce, Jacob Branch, Daniel Crocker, Thomas Crocker and Joseph Branch.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni, by the Rev. Steve Bradshaw. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and at other times at the residence. Donations to assist the family with medical and final expenses should be directed to the Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Benevolence Committee, Attn. Carolyn Bryant, 37527 Seacock Chapel Road, Zuni, N.C. 23898.
