BRANCHE Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - February 11, 1996 Miss Julia Cleo Branche, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 1996, at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin after a long illness. She was born Aug. 31, 1907, in Southampton County, the daughter of the late Henry and Fannie Raiford Branche. She had been a licensed practical nurse most of her adult life, beginning her career in the New Raiford Memorial Hospital on the corner of Main and Second Avenue in Franklin. She remained there 10 years and then began private duty nursing. She later worked at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, and Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. She was a dedicated friend and nurse to anyone that needed her, regardless of their status in life. She nursed her own parents and brother and sister who preceded her in death. She was an active member of Corinth Friends Meeting, Ivor, as long as she was able and was a member of the Ladies Aide Society. She was also a member of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary after she retired. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth B. Duncan of Smithfield and Mary B. Sherard and her husband, Sam, of Suffolk; and two sisters-in-law, Emma Lea Branch of Franklin and Lottye Branche of Sedley; and a large number of nieces and nephews whom Miss Branche considered as her own grandchildren, including a much-loved nephew, Gerald Duncan of Portsmouth. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sadie C. Branche; and three brothers, Paul Branch and Junius Branche and John Branche. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by Ken Thames. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday.
