Mary Elizabeth Jones Branton, 54, died Jan. 15, 2002, at Nansemond Pointe Healthcare. 
A native of Suffolk, she was the daughter of the late William S. Jones and Effie Lee Weaver Jones. She was a former store manager with Holiday Food Stores for more than 12 years and a member of Whaleyville United Methodist Church. 
She is survived by a daughter, Josie Babb of Suffolk; sons, William E. Gay Jr. of Suffolk and Tony R. Babb of San Jose, Calif.; and a brother, William "Tommy" Jones of Suffolk. 
A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Western Branch Baptist Cemetery by the Rev. Tommy Reynolds. Friends may join the family at the residence, 123 Whaley St., Suffolk. Harrell and Hill Funeral Home is serving the family.
