Josephine Braswell Williams, 84, died May 24, 1997. 

Mrs. Williams was the widow of William E. ``Dick'' Williams and the daughter of the late Joseph and Ballie Butler Braswell. She was a retired sales clerk at Jones-Hayes and was a Baptist. 

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley W. Robertson, and her husband, J.E., of Suffolk and Louise A. Crocker, and her husband, Emmanuel, of Hampton; son, William Donald Williams, and his wife, Terrie, of Dunn, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, William J. Atkinson. 

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wright Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. E. Cecil Smith. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
