A native of Suffolk, Mr. Brinkley retired as a superintendent, Whaleyville District, for the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church. He was the widower of Hazel Bulls Brinkley and was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Henry Brinkley and Sally Elizabeth Babb Brinkley. He was also predeceased by a sister, Mary B. Wilkins. Survivors include his daughters, Linda B. Dennis of Eure, N.C., and Kathy B. Benton of Suffolk; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Herman Brinkley of Portsmouth. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. Joseph Wilkins and the Rev. John Kimball. Interment will be in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.
