JOSIE MAE BRITT BUTLER
NEWSOMS - Josie Mae Britt Butler, 87, passed away July 28, 2004, at
Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin. Josie was born in Newsoms in
Southampton County, to the late Leo L. Britt and Mary Anna Whitley
Britt. She lived in Isle of Wight County for a number of years, and then
returned to Newsoms. Mrs. Butler was a homemaker, a member of Colosse
Baptist Church and attended Newsoms United Methodist Church in her later
years. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Milton Butler.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory a daughter, Edna "Ree" B.
Porter and husband, Norman, of Newsoms; a son, Roy "Buddy" C. Butler and
wife Betty of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Norma Ree Harakas, Todd
Butler and Renee Webster; four stepgrandchildren, Linda Franks, Thomas
Darden, Rose Myers and Carl Darden; eight great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Alice Oakes and special friend, Lewis Mason of Ivor, and Gracie
B. Story of Newsoms; two brothers, Lloyd Britt and wife Elizabeth of
Walters and James Britt and wife Eula of Wilson, N.C.; and numerous
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert Britt
and Archie Britt and a sister, Florrie Britt.
A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Purviance
Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, with the Rev. Gary Hartman and the
Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Committal services will take
place in Windsor Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
