Obituary of Robert Bruce Brothers Jr. ROBERT BRUCE BROTHERS JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - June 30, 1997 Robert Bruce Brothers Jr., 69, died Saturday, June 28, 1997 at his home. A native of Suffolk, his parents were the late Robert B. and Ruth Jones Brothers. He retired in 1966 as a major in the U.S. Army, having served from 1946 to 1966. He worked as a case officer for the Central Intelligence Agency from 1966 to 1976, including six years in Vietnam. He retired in 1996 as deputy chief probation and parole officer in the Norfolk office of the Virginia Department of Corrections after 15 years' service. As a member of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and the 7th Special Forces Group. He served in two wars, Korea and Vietnam. He received the Joint Service Commendation Medal for Distinguished Service. Other awards include the Army Commendation Medal and numerous Expeditionary Commendations. Survivors include his wife, Reather F. Brothers; three sons, Robert B. Brothers III of Portsmouth, David C. Brothers of Arlington and Thomas J. Brothers of Okinawa; a daughter, Susan E. Paulus and her husband, Dick of Lancaster, Ohio; a stepson, Mark Lane Oakley and his wife, Sandy of Chesapeake; a sister, Frances Brothers Morris and her husband, Hank of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Ivor Cemetery , Ivor, by the Rev. Randy Duncan.
