Obituary of Margaret Edith Weir Brown MARGARET EDITH WEIR BROWN Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - June 15, 2004 Margaret Edith "Peg" Weir Brown, 95, a resident of the Franklin area since 1974, died June 13, 2004, at Courtland Healthcare Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 29, 1908, in Boston, Mass., a daughter of the late Thomas and Minnie Spiers Weir. She had been a very active pink lady at Southampton Memorial Hospital, a member of Hunterdale Senior Citizens and High Street Senior Citizens. She was a superb cook until the age of 94, and will be remembered for her knitting and for teaching knitting to others. Mrs. Brown was predeceased by her husband, George Albion Brown on Jan. 26, 1988. Survivors include one son, Lawrence W. (Larry) Brown and Deborah Vick Ledbetter of Franklin; one daughter, Elaine Brown of Haverhill, Mass.; one sister, Violet W. Stamp of Lancaster, Pa.; five grandchildren, Angela B. Ruiz and husband George of San Diego, Calif., Lawrence W. Brown Jr. and wife Kristen of Winston Salem, N.C., Michelle M. Sutter of Nashua, N.H., and Bryan and Shawn Mahoney, both of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren, Leah and Karee Brown and Brandon and Cameron Sutter; one cousin, Glady Sachse of Leesburg, Fla.; a special friend and companion, Mary Parker; and special neighbors, Ken and Iola Gay and George and Betty Allen. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Brown was predeceased by a sister, Ann W. Herig. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. A. Richard Childress officiating. the family will receive friends at the home of Larry Brown, 32482 School House Road in Franklin, and suggest in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to either the Hunterdale Senior Citizens, c/o Hunterdale United Church of Christ, 741 Hunterdale Road, Franklin, VA 23851 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. June S.
