He was born April 7, 1916, in Norfolk, the son of the late Rubin and Paulina Pope Burgess. He began to work in 1955 at Cain Electronics in Norfolk and he purchased the business in 1972 and was still active in the business at the time of his death. He was a member of the Antique Radio Club of Norfolk and National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He was the husband of the late Blanche Drake Burgess of Southampton County. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra B. Crawford, Linda D. Bright and her husband Marvin and Joan Ann Fulton and her husband Richard, all of Norfolk; two granddaughters, April McLauchlin and her husband Jeff, and Sonya Bright; one great-grandchild, J.P. McLauchlin; and Mr. Burgess' special companion, Barbara Conklin. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Capron Cemetery .
