Richard Timothy Butler, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. 

Born in Holy Neck, Va., and a longtime resident of Southampton County, he was the son of the late David Richard and Cora Victoria Duck Butler. Mr. Butler was an avid fisherman and had operated the Country Store in Statesville, was employed by W.T. Pace Hardware, and retired from Southampton Tractor Co. At the time of his death, Mr. Butler was the oldest member of Barnes United Methodist Church, Newsoms . 

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances Thorpe Butler. 

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hollywood Cemetery by the Rev. Derek Koolman. The family will receive friends at the residence, 33279 Statesville Road, Newsoms . Memorial donations may be made to the Barnes United Methodist Church or Boykins Volunteer Rescue Squad. Purviance Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
