Born in Holy Neck, Va., and a longtime resident of Southampton County, he was the son of the late David Richard and Cora Victoria Duck Butler. Mr. Butler was an avid fisherman and had operated the Country Store in Statesville, was employed by W.T. Pace Hardware, and retired from Southampton Tractor Co. At the time of his death, Mr. Butler was the oldest member of Barnes United Methodist Church, Newsoms . Mr. Butler is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances Thorpe Butler.
