Obituary of James Madison "Squirrel" Carr Sr. JAMES MADISON CARR SR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - August 6, 2002 James Madison "Squirrel" Carr Sr., 82, died Aug. 4, 2002, at Courtland Healthcare Center. Born in Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late Samuel Betts and Cora Holland Carr and was the widower of Ruth Gray Carr. He served with Company K, 311th Infantry Division in Germany, receiving the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was a retired farmer, and a former member of the Carrsville Farmers Hunt Club. Survivors include three daughters, Jean Matthews and her husband Jesse of Como, N.C., Sarah Vargo of Carrsville, and Mary Kueper and her husband Terry of Albuquerque, N.M.; one son, James M. "Little Squirrel" Carr Jr. of Carrsville; one sister, Mary Ann West of Ivor; two grandsons, Eric Wayne Vargo and Christopher Lynn Moore. Squirrel was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Shirley Kello, Alton Joyner, Staley Carr, Bonnie Carr, Millson A. Carr, Sarah Carr, Sam B. Carr, and Billy B. Carr. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. J. Robert Bennett and the Rev. Larry Allen officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
