Obituary of John Nelson Carr JOHN NELSON CARR Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, January 17, 2003 John Nelson Carr, 50, died Jan. 15, 2003 in Obici Hospital after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, Nelson retired from the Roll Finishing Department of International Paper after 30 years service and farmed for many years with his father. He was a longtime member of the Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department. He served as chief for more than 20 years, and was instrumental in the development of the new Carrsville Fire Station and in acquiring new equipment for the department. Nelson was very dedicated to the Fire Department and spent many hours at the station, out of love for the department and the community. He was a member of Colosse Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Debra Davis Carr; a daughter, Sherry C. Minga and husband, Bill; a son, Chris Carr; his parents, J.P. and Edna Carr, all of Carrsville; a sister, Nancy C. Harcum of Holland; two grandchildren, W.N. Minga and Ashley Minga; a brother-in-law, Mac Davis and wife, Kim of Carrsville; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Tim Webb and Chaplain Don Rosie officiating. Burial will follow in Colosse Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p .m. at the funeral home and suggests that memorials be made to the Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
