Obituary of Lennie Jep "L.J." Carr Jr. LENNIE JEP CARR JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, September 2, 2002 SUFFOLK - Lennie Jep "L.J." Carr Jr., 70, of the 1300 block of Meade Drive, died Aug. 31, 2002, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Suffolk, he retired as assistant fire chief from the Suffolk Fire Department after 38 years of service. He was also the owner of L.J. Carr and Son Painting Contractors. He was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church, Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685, Triangle Hunt Club, South of the James Golf Association, the Sandbaggers Bowling League at AMF Western Branch, and a former instructor for the Virginia Fire Academy. Mr. Carr was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the occupation forces in Japan. He was the son of the late Lennie J. Carr Sr. and Lillie Mae Hines Carr. He was predeceased by a sister, Lucille C. Daughtrey. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rena Gayle Carr of Suffolk; sons and daughters-in-law, Lennie J. Carr III and Tracy P. Carr of Petersburg, Va., and Michael R. and Pamela B. Carr of Suffolk; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Carr, Brittany Nicole Carr, Justin Michael Carr and Russell Ashton Carr; sisters, Nell C. White of Norfolk, Emma C. Griggs of Kingsland, Ga., Sarah C. Carter of Franklin and Myrtle C. Ingvaldson of Virginia Beach; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Oxford United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dick Jones. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery with fireman's rites. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Harrell & Hill Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 1329 Meade Drive. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
