RUTH GRAY CARR

Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - January 16, 2002 

Georgia Ruth Gray Carr, 75, died Jan. 14, 2002, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late George and Celeste Helen Ferguson Gray. Mrs. Carr was employed by W.W. Carr and A.L. Duck Inc. of Walters. She was also a seamstress for Billy Phillips LTD of Franklin, the neighborhood and surrounding area. She was a member of Mount Carmel Christian Church. 

Survivors include her husband, James M. Carr Sr.; three daughters, Jean Matthews and her husband, Jesse, of Como, N.C., Sarah Vargo of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Mary Kueper and her husband, Terry, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, James M. "Squirrel" Carr of Carrsville; special nephew, William "Billy" Warren of Windsor; a sister, Elizabeth Stebbins of Pawcatuck, Conn.; two grandchildren, Christopher L. Moore and Eric Vargo of Courtland; and a special devoted pet, "Susie." 

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. J. Robert Bennett, the Rev. Larry Allen and the Rev. Father Carl DeSouza officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery , Franklin. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and requests memorials be made to Mount Carmel Christian Church, 27882 Walters Hwy., Walters, VA 23481.
