Obituary of Paul Nowlan Carter PAUL NOWLAN CARTER Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - September 29, 2002 WINDSOR - Paul Nowlan Carter, 80, died Sept. 27, 2002, in Obici Hospital. A native of Summers County, W.Va., he was retired from Union 76 Oil Co. and was a member of Community Church, Pence Springs, W.Va., where he was baptized. He was a member of The Knights of Pythias Tidewater Lodge No. 16 where he was a past chancellor and a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Carter was the son of the late Lonnie Thornton Carter and Hazel Rae Pringle Carter. Survivors include his wife, Edythe Bond Carter; daughters, Betty C. Saunders and fiance Ronald A. Thompson of Windsor, and Paula C. and John Peter Dorn of Great Falls, Va.; grandsons, Laurence E. Brooks of Great Falls and Stuart Carter Saunders of Walters, Va.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth C. and Kenard Ballengee of Melbourne, Fla., and Lola T. and John Coiner of Alderson, W.Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Harry R. and Virginia Carter of Dundalk, Md.; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Benson and Mr. Alvin L. Bond of Chesapeake, Margery Winningham and Joyce Story of Portsmouth and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mowry of Gloucester Point, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell & Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. James Dunn with burial in Windsor Cemetery.
