Obituary of H. Burdge Caton H. BURDGE CATON Virginian Pilot - 04 13-1998 SUFFOLK - H. Burdge Caton, 87, of the 1000 block of Virginia Ave., died April 12, 1998. A native of Alexandria, he was the son of the late Harry Bernard and Adele Odgen Caton. He moved with his family to Suffolk in 1941. Mr. Caton was a retired right-of-way agent for the Virginia Department of Highways. A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, he was active in the James L. McLemore Bible Class and served on various church committees. In 1927, Mr. Carton was presented the Eagle Scout Award by the U.S. vice president, Charles G. Dawes. Active in the Boy Scouts for many years, he was associated with Troop No. 1 of Main Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Caton was a charter member and past president of the Nansemond-Suffolk Izaak Walton League and former national director and president of The Virginia State I.W.L.A. Mr. Caton served on Suffolk City Council from 1947 to 1955. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and past commander of Nansemond River Power Squadron. He was a past president of the Suffolk Jaycees, and a co-organizer and first president of the Suffolk Community Chest. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca D. Caton; three sons, Randall B. Caton of Harrisburg, Pa., James C. Caton of Suffolk and Daniel B. Caton of Henderson, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. William H. Walcott, Jr. of Cambridge, Md.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. Alan Felumlee. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
