Born Oct. 20, 1933, in Nansemond County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Elizabeth Jenkins Umphlett, widow of Herman Ray Chappell and sister of the late Rebecca Hood. She is survived by her daughters, Rosa Greene of Franklin, Margaret Hawkins of Sunbury, N.C., Patricia Roberson of Winton, N.C., Darlene Clifton of Sunbury; sons, Herman Ray Chappell Jr., Billy Chappell, Charles Chappell, Glen Allen Chappell, all of Suffolk, Marvin Chappell of Sunbury; sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Howe of Richmond, Betty Ann Gunn of Suffolk; brothers, Paul Edward Umphlett, George Umphlett, both of Suffolk, Charlie Earl Umphlett of Tappahannock, Samuel Umphlett of Blackstone, Bobby Umphlett of Franklin, Henry Umphlett of Gloucester; 26 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. William E. Hawkins with burial in Great Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
