Obituary of JOHN W. CLOSE The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, September 25, 1995 John W. ``Jack'' Close, U.S. Navy (Ret.), died Saturday, Sept. 23, 1995. Mr. Close was born in Detroit on Nov. 9, 1928. He was the son of the late William Kenneth and Mildred Cary Lane Close. Mr. Close, a longtime resident of Courtland , Va., was a retired chief petty officer in the Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Courtland , a life member of DAV Chapter 20, Virginia Beach, and of VFW Post 4411, Franklin. Survivors include two sisters, Elizabeth C. Lee of Knoxville, Tenn., and Mary Leigh Babb of Chester; four brothers, Robert G. Close of Morristown, Tenn., David B. Close of Ashland City, Tenn., Kenneth D. Close of Raleigh, N.C., and George J.L. Close of Mechanicsville; and two god-children, Janice P. and Kristie N. Harrison of Hunterdale. Graveside services will be held at the family plot in Riverside Cemetery , Courtland , at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. James W. Browder III officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the grave. The family will be at Jack's home at 22396 Scottswood Road, Franklin. Wright Funeral Home is in charge.
