Obituary of J G Cobb JA GOULD COBB Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, March 28, 2004 J G Cobb, 84, died March 27, 2004, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Born in Southampton County, he was a son of the late Tony Roy Cobb Sr. and Willie Anne Blythe Cobb. JG was a Navy veteran of World War II and proudly served as chief petty officer aboard the USS Arkansas. He was a member of the Hunterdale United Church of Christ for 75 years and served in many capacities including the Board of Deacons, Sunday school teacher, Laymans Fellowship, and Mens Bible Class. He was a member and past master of Masonic Lodge No. 151 AF&AM. He was retired from Union Camp Corporation. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Clara Belle Smith Cobb; three daughters, Brenda Bishop and husband, "Plucky" of Franklin, Christine Nelson and husband, John of Louisville, Ky., and Laura Ann Strickland and husband, Mike of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren, Michael Bishop and wife, Cassidy, Kelly Bishop, Zachary Nelson, Ian Nelson, Aaron Strickland and Ethan Strickland; a great-grandchild, Dylan Decesaro; two brothers, Herman Cobb and Melton Cobb and wife, Lois; five sisters, Ruth Babb and husband, Lewis, Edith Simmons and husband, Gus, Dot Kitchen, Gracie Ann Foster and husband, Frank and Jerline Lankford and husband, Johnny, all of the Franklin area; and many nieces, nephews and friends. JG was predeceased by two brothers, Tony "Buck" Cobb and Shelton "Sheck" Cobb and a sister, Audrey C. Cobb. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hunterdale United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dietmar Plajer officiating. Burial with Masonic rites and military honors will follow in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home and immediately following the committal in the church fellowship hall.
