Esther Collier Raiford, 92, a resident of Ivor and the widow of Marion James Raiford Sr., died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
She was born in Surry County on Nov. 17, 1906, and was the daughter of the late John Walter Thomas Collier and Edmonia Bailey Collier. She was a member of Millfield Baptist Church, Ivor, and its Woman's Missionary Union.
She is survived by two sons, M. James Raiford Jr. of Newport News and Marvin W. Raiford of Waverly, Va.; a sister-in-law, Doris Collier of Dendron, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late son, Aubrey M. Raiford, and a daughter, Clara R. Baines.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Millfield Baptist Church, Ivor. Burial will be in Millfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Ivor. Memorials may be made to the Millfield Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is handling arrangements.
