William R. Conner, 78, died June 10, 1998, in East Pavilion. 

Mr. Conner was born in Jackson, N.C., the youngest of five children of the late William R. and Minnie Harrell Conner. He was the widower of Lena Umphlett Conner. He had retired from Franklin Equipment after 24 years of service. 

He is survived by his sister, Sadie Conner of Emporia; and his nurse, Cynthia Engram of Courtland. 

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. Kenneth Williams. Wright Funeral Home is in charge.
