Obituary of Mary Virginia Saunders Cook MARY VIRGINIA SAUNDERS COOK Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 5, 2002 Mary Virginia Saunders Cook , 86, died Dec. 3, 2002, at Tandem Healthcare of Windsor. Born April 5, 1916 in Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Mary Frances Hall Saunders. Mrs. Cook was a good and loving wife to Homer Cook Sr. for 68 years, a wonderful mother for six children and grandchildren, and a good Samaritan to all, never turning away any homeless person. She was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. Besides her husband, she leaves to cherish her precious memory her children, Jean E. Bradshaw and husband J.J. of Holland, Grace C. Rodgester of Franklin, Clyde F. Cook and wife Lorene of Ivor, Edward L. Cook and wife Nancy of Ivor, S . Wayne Cook and wife Joan of Ivor; daughter-in-law, Dianne W. Cook of Courtland; 14 grandchildren, Connie, Karlus, JoAnn, Nancy, Lisa, Robin, Tammy, Michael, Kenny, Kathy, Penny, Vickie, Krista and Brian; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Homer Cook Jr. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni, Va., with the Rev. Steve Bradshaw and the Rev. Larry Burkhart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today.
