COPELAND Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, October 14, 2003 SUFFOLK - John Felton "Mickey" Copeland , 73, died Oct. 12, 2003 at Obici Hospital. A native of Nansemond County, he was a son of the late John James and Isabell Lowe Copeland . A Navy veteran, he was retired after 27 years with Hobbs Engineering and a Baptist. He was a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans and an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marjorie Turner Copeland ; two daughters, Marjorie Marie Matthews and husband Delray of Carrsville and Joann C. Cherry and husband Darick of Suffolk; a beloved granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Cherry; five sisters, Vivian Winborne, Evelyn C. Jones, Jeanette C. Carr and Sarah C. Summerlin, all of Suffolk and Mildred C. Hedgbeth of Zuni. Mickey was predeceased by a brother, James Edward Copeland ; and two sisters, Lessie McClenny and Clara Alberger. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Holland Cemetery by the Rev. J.B. Matthews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
