Obituary of MERRIMAN REED COUK Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - August 29, 1996 M. Reed Couk, 86, of 713 Pace St., died Aug. 27, 1996, at Southampton Memorial. Mr. Couk was a native of Jonesville, Va., and was the son of the late Alonzo Jackson and Eva Maude Whitford Couk. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was retired as a beater engineer at Union Camp Corp. He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and a former member of Woodmen of the World. He is survived by his wife, Ella Daye Cridlin Couk; two sisters, Mary Couk, Gladys C. Price of Jonesville, Va.; a sister-in-law, Jeanette C. Johnson of Smithfield; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence P. Cridlin and wife, Peggy, and John William Cridlin and wife, Willa Mae, of Newport News; a special niece, Suellen Johnson Morse of Atlanta; several other nieces and nephews, Barbara Sue Cruz, Pamela C. Cole, Morgan Couk, Gary Couk, Robert Couk and Jack Gilley; several great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Atha Couk and two brothers, Robert Couk and Whitford Couk. The graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Ira D. Hugdins.
