Obituary of Meta Pace Matthews Councill META PACE MATTHEWS COUNCILL Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - July 24, 1998 Meta Pace Matthews Councill, 67, a lifelong resident of Franklin, died July 23, 1998. She was the daughter of the late J. Fenton and Louise Pace Matthews and the granddaughter of the late W.T. and Meta Parker Pace and Benjamin and Nancy Barham Matthews. Mrs. Councill was a member of High Street United Methodist Church where she served as a teacher, a member of the Sara Vaughan Cutchins Circle and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Franklin Book Club and was active in the local Girl Scouts where she served as a troop leader for many years. She was a member of the Friends of the Library and worked as a library assistant. Mrs. Councill, a graduate of Franklin High School, attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Robbie C. Councill Jr.; two daughters, Louise C. Riddick and her husband, Nat, of Ahoskie, N.C., and Anne C. Williams and her husband, Taylor, of Franklin; two sons, Robbie C. Councill III and his wife, Deborah, and William E. Councill and his wife, Cindy, all of Franklin; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth and Natalie Riddick, Meta and Bert Williams, Courtney and Whitney Councill, Travis and Wade Councill; a sister-in-law, Dorothy C. Beale of Franklin; a niece, Carolyn B. Cheshire of Raleigh, N.C.; and a nephew, J. Milton Beale of Carrsville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. Edward Johnson and the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins. Interment will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 1447 Clay St., and suggests that memorials be made to The Ruth Camp Campbell Memorial Library, The Texie Camp Marks Children's Center or The American Cancer Society.
