MARY LOUISE COWAN COURTNEY

Mary "Louise" Cowan Courtney, 94, of the 100 block of Deborah Drive, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ Dec. 12, 2003. 
Born in Bear Grass, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Winnie Virginia and Mack Gilbert Cowman. She was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy C. and Edward Hurley Brinkley and three sisters and three brothers. 
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy C. and Tommy R. McCausley of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Patricia B. Sawyer of Mechanicsville, Va., Teri C. Tillett of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Morris Carr, Tony McCausley and Teresa McCausley, all of Suffolk; nine great-grandchildren; and her special friend and nurse, Celestine Blowe. 
A member of First Baptist Church, she was well known for her beautiful quilts. She left all of her loved ones with quilts stitched with love. We want to thank Sentara Home Care. 
The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, by Dr. David Chauncey. Burial will follow in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. for visitation and at the residence at other times and following the committal. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 237 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434.
