Obituary of MARTHA DREWRY COX The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - January 30, 1995 Martha ``Mattie'' Drewery Cox, 93, of Cox St. in Walters, died Saturday, Jan 28, 1995, at her home. Mrs. Cox was a native of Isle of Wight County and was the widow of Walter Thomas Cox. She was a former dietician for the Portsmouth Public School system and retired as the dietician for the Future Farmers of America and Future Homemakers of America Summer Camp at Mogarts Beach in Smithfield. Mrs. Cox, a lifelong member of Mount Carmel Christian Church, was the oldest member of the church and was a member of the church's Ladies Bible Class, Women's Fellowship and Golden Age Club. Mrs. Cox was a longtime member of the Women's Benefits Association. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Louise Cox Carr and Martha Cox Ownby; two granddaughters, Nancy O. Blythe and Theresa O. Curnutte, all of Walters; four great-grandchildren, Dane Blythe of Virginia Beach, Dina Bulls of Walters, Trent Blythe of Suffolk and Heather Clark of Norfolk; one great-great-granddaughter, Lindsay Cox Bulls of Walters; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 1995 at Mount Carmel Christian Church, Walters, with the Rev. J. Robert Bennett officiating. The burial will be in the church cemetery.
