SUFFOLK - Sybil Cross Bowen, 90, passed away Nov. 2, 2006.
Born in Gates County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late
Zeb and Sallie Edwards Cross; the widow of Henry Bowen and was
predeceased by her sister, Katherine Cross Horton.
Mrs. Bowen had completed a secretarial course at Mary Washington State
Teachers College in Fredericksburg, Va., and had retired after 40 years
as the church secretary at Great Fork Baptist Church where she had been
a lifelong member. She was also a member of the church's Ruth Bible
Class and its senior citizens group. She had also retired from the
Whaleyville Water Department with 30 years of service.
She will be sadly missed by her sister, Violet Askew of Greenville,
N.C.; her niece, DelCross H. Boyle and husband Robert of Chesapeake; her
nephew, Edward Askew and wife JoAnn, also of Greenville; and numerous
great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. in Great Fork Baptist
Church Cemetery by the Rev. Donald Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be
made to Great Fork Baptist Church, 180 Great Fork Road, Suffolk, VA
23438.
Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, is handling the arrangements.
